Red Stick Farmers Market is a producer only open air farmers market that brings Louisiana farmers, fishers and chefs together with urban neighbors in the East Baton Rouge Parish and surrounding region. We operate 52 weeks a year, Tuesday Thursday Saturday
Every Saturday morning the routine in our household starts with the regular trip to the Red Stick Farmer’s Market. We buy all our weekly veggies, talk with the farmers, say hello to the regulars and frequently run into friends not seen for awhile. What use to be a chore, grocery shopping, is now a joyful outing. Our farmers listen and have added requested produce, they advise on ways, many times unique, to prepare their produce and they have introduced new veggies to a receptive market. We have learned to eat fresh and seasonal, which means waiting for favorites! Our grandchildren have shared the pleasures of the market run and always go when they are with us on Saturday mornings. This market is a great venue with inside booths with local products ranging from oils and dressings, to breakfast grills cooking market produce to a small organic food store and even cooking demonstrations with local chefs teaching how to use that fresh produce just outside.
To round out the market, several seafood and meat vendors were added years ago at the consumers suggestion. We usually have live music that passes the hat and plant vendors encouraging you to grow some on your own. And once a month in an adjacent parking lot, arts and crafts vendors, local, regional and some traveling. It is a great place, feeds your body, mind and soul.
