The Yellow Green Farmers Market was founded on the concept of integrating life’s daily necessities with environmental awareness in the Hollywood, Florida area. A farmers’ market is one of best ways to learn from and buy directly from food producers. Yellow Green Farmers Market brings the best of South Florida food entrepreneurs directly to fresh food aficionados. Following the tradition of open air markets worldwide, each vendor maintains their own stall so there is a unique experience every few feet. The market has several live entertainers, chef demonstrations, community groups, each weekend. The Yellow Green Farmers Market comes alive with the community, and reflects the heart of the community of South Florida. The Yellow Green Farmers Market is an incubator of the entrepreneurial spirit. It was designed to encourage people to create a business. It provides a cost-effective physical location for bakers and candle stick makers, along with gourmet dog food, Amish cheese and healthy dark chocolate treats. Meet local farmers, merchants and craftsmen. Gain a deeper understanding of healthy products, from organic pasta to coffee with natural elements that improve the mind, to music from the South American mountains and valleys. It’s a mission with a vision. It’s more than a market place. It’s a look at the future of food, life and community in the 21st century. The market is in a 100,000 square foot building that once housed a metal-working facility that produced water tanks in the 1950s and 60s. Yellow Green Farmers Market offers free parking and Wi-Fi. Bring your kids, your friends, and your dogs. YGFM is pet friendly. The Yellow Green Farmers Market welcomes you every Saturday and Sunday from 9 AM to 4 PM. Conveniently located in South Broward County, near Pembroke Pines, Davie, Hallandale, Fort Lauderdale, and North Miami.

This weekend was my first time at Yellow Green. I normally go to the weekly market by Volunteer Park in Sunrise or grab stuff at Brother’s. But I was very impressed with Yellow Green…in fact, i think it is worth the drive to Hollywood ( I live in Sunrise). I was thoroughly impressed.

There are farmer’s markets, and then there are farmer’s markets. In the interest of transparency: I run a booth at the Yellow Green. Now, before you go all Fox News on me, let me just say that I, we, that is my lovely partner for life, Elizabeth Kay Quiles, searched for the farmer’s market that best suited our needs. We visited many farmer’s markets in the south Florida area and we finally decided on the Yellow Green. Well actually my beautiful partner for life decided. ( I know, I know!)
Here’s the rub, it’s situated in what used to be an old foundry, you know, those symbols of man’s triumph over nature, casting and forging metals mined from the ground, and now it is a beacon of the bounty of mother earth. You can’t help but see the irony as you walk under the steel girders above the rows and rows of fresh farm produce. It is a sign that regardless of how much we think we are in control, nature will always prevail. We are after all just organisms in a giant petri dish called earth, and we have to learn to manage our stay here.
Our stay here? Manage? Glad you asked, because farmer’s markets in large urban areas like for instance this one in Hollywood, Florida are important, not just as places to get produce and other farm fresh products, they are also the gateway to those farms, avenues for young children to see that food doesn’t come from clean sterile environments, a way for people to meet with an actual person who grows food. Grows. Grows. Grows. Not manufactured, but grown. Dirty fingers and all. The Yellow Green Farmer’s Market in Hollywood, Florida is such a place. But the Yellow Green is also an incubator for small business and many a local businessman or woman have had their start there. That is what pillars of the community do, they give back, they help the community grow and prosper, not take, take, and then take some more to some bank in a far away State.
Community. Each weekend without fail I will get one new customer who will say something like: “This place is fantastic, why don’t you advertise?” That’s a slippery slope. It’s a road to becoming what you hate the most. No, the Yellow Green is a great place because it is that gem of an undiscovered place to those who have never been, and a great place for the regulars to come every weekend and meet up with their friends, or catch up with their sister or brother, or Mother, or Father…, you get my meaning. Did I mention you can bring your pets?
Mother nature has a way of ruining a good outing with a storm now and again, but not at the Yellow Green. The Yellow Green is completely covered, but has wide open sides so that you are still basically “out”. But above and beyond everything that I have written here about this Farmer’s Market, the best part are the people. We are part of the community, we are local, and every dollar spent at the Yellow Green stays right here in the local area. Now that’s reason enough for anyone. Did I mention I have a booth here? Booth #123, drop in and say hello.

I practically live at the Yellow Green Market! Ever since I discovered it a few years ago it has become my favorite weekend hangout. Not only can I find yummy Amish butter, fresh fruit and veggies, and so much more, but I truly enjoy delicious fresh food and desserts from my favorite vendors. Don Rodone’s Peruvian ceviche, Via Panini’s delectable Italian dishes, and Urban Desserts’ Colombian creations are among my top choices. In addition to all the yumminess there is also a great, safe family environment where you can even bring your dog. This market is truly a hidden gem which has come to enhance and enrich our community. Love my Yellow Green Market!

#yellowgreenfarmersmarket is a weekend destination for South Florida . They offer an abundance of fresh vegetables , excellent freshly prepared food & baked goods , coffees from around the world and the friendliest vendors all in one place. I always leave happy after having had a healthy green smoothie or fresh coconut juice . I’ve bought Christmas presents already 🙂 and always take home a black bean cupcake. YUM ! The information booth lady is by far the nicest person on the planet. Stop by for a free bag . Growing larger all the time but always having the small business feel. One of my favorite places to visit on a Sunday morning or Saturday afternoon . Dragonfruit this weekend !!

I love this market! Everyone is so helpful and friendly including the other customers. I love being able to buy the fresh fruits and veggies my family loves at great prices without all the chemicals. It’s also great to be able to get stuff not sold in local supermarkets
