The Swarthmore Farmers Market, which is staffed fully by adult and student volunteers, operates from mid-May until early December every Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Our intent is to be THE Saturday morning food, art, and community gathering place for people from Swarthmore and surrounding communities, to enhance the quality of life in and around Swarthmore, and to contribute to a vibrant and thriving town center.
We have a diverse and changing roster of farmers, food artisans, artists, and musicians, along with frequent visits from community/nonprofit organizations, as well as various healthy activities. Each month has a specific food and/or social justice theme, including, for example, the collection of food for food pantries, providing elder support, coat drive later in the year for homeless people, collection of toiletries/hygiene products for a locally run women’s shelter (June’s focus—netted over 77 lbs of donated items!), home safety demonstration in cooperation with the local Fire Department, writing letters to troops in action, etc.

The Swarthmore Farmers Market is an all-volunteer workforce and really strives to be a community gathering destination. Each week, in addition to connecting the neighborhood with local farmers and food artisans, we highlight local nonprofit organizations and offer live music and free family & children’s activities. We’re also proud to accept SNAP payments and vouchers benefiting WIC recipients and low-income senior citizens. Did I mention that we’re ALL VOLUNTEERS?! Vote for the Swarthmore Farmers Market!!
