Mount Vernon’s Farmers Market has so many opportunities for our community to obtain healthy local foods. It is not only a place to purchase produce but a place where the community comes to make things happen. Our Seniors have two different opportunites to obtain support to eat healthy! We have an income based program throught the District 5 Area Agency on Aging as well as the Eat Fresh Eat Local program through the Knox County Task Force for Older Adults. This market serves as a great mechanisim for socialization and an opportunity to bring the commuity together.
Elders visiting the Farm Market from The Ohio Eastern Star Home were appreciative of the Fresh Produce Tokens available to Seniors. Comments were quite positive: “this tomato reminds me of eating one straight from the garden in my back yard” “fresh onions, green beans and beets will be an additional perk to my meals” “people are so friendly and very helpful” “let’s come again”!
The Mount Vernon Farmer’s Market is a great family friendly place to spend your Saturday! It has excellent prices and a very welcoming environment! Our kids love shopping at the market and the incentive programs have helped us lower our monthly grocery bills while still supporting local growers! We are very thankful for the market.
