Founded in 2007 by local residents, the Cheverly Community Market is turning 10 in 2017! The Cheverly Community Market is committed to offering a vibrant market and gathering place that strengthens the community by providing fresh, nutritious food from local sources and encourages unique local businesses and artisans. Now in our tenth season, and with a vendor mix that has grown from four vendors to about 20, the Market is proud to serve as an incubator for local businesses and play a role in the growth of our economy. The Cheverly Community Market is one of 21 farmers markets in Maryland that proudly participates in the Maryland Market Money (MMM) matching program. MMM is a state-wide currency distributed to participants in federal nutrition benefits programs. As part of this program, we match SNAP, WIC-FVC and FMNP benefits spent at the Market on fresh fruits and vegetables. While the minimum matching requirement for MMM is $5, the Market works to raise funds to increase that match to $10—-helping to increase our customers’ food budgets for purchasing healthy, local foods while also directly supporting local growers and producers. The Market is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
