Quaint, manageable, spectacular, and above all, farm fresh delicious! In retirement, my culinary preferences lean towards quality, not quantity; flavor over fanfare. The Port Jefferson Farmers Market has this and more, much more. From cured meats and diary cheeses, to delicate macaroons and hand crafted pastries. Just picked produce to aged spirits. Chocolate pecan pie, not too sweet with the perfect, flaky crust and just right, fat pecans! Just cut flowers, recently harvested honey, herbs still in pots! And it’s location, location, location, in “Down Port” Port Jefferson, in the park by the edge of the water, next to historic and renovated shipyard building. Port Jefferson boasts fine dining, sea food to die for, and at least a half dozen ice cream and Italian ice shops. Home made candy stores and a brewery! My wife and I visit the Farmer’s Market every Sunday morning after church, and then enjoy some baked goods by the bay, and always bring a few things home as well. It’s a must see, must do!
Without farms, our markets and tables would be empty. Get a free "No Farms No Food" bumper sticker to show off your support of America's farmers and ranchers.
