The Mount Holly Farmers Market was envisioned and created by the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation in 2006. In our second year of operation we split off from the Foundation and became an independent organization. However, we continue to have a close relationship with the Community Development Foundation as they continue to support us when we are fund raising or grant writing. We became a 501(c)(3) in 2015. This year we are entering our 14th year of operation and have grown from 3 vendors in 2006 to 20+ vendors in 2019.
We have a strong and very popular “Chef-in-Residence program”. The chef selects food in season at the market and then demonstrates healthy cooking techniques and recipes. This has become one of the most popular events at the market. We sponsor a parade on the Saturday closest to the 4th of July and a separate “Kids Day at the Market” where all program activities are geared for children. Local musicians round out our programs to achieve an inviting and pleasant place for our community to gather on Saturday mornings.
We are the largest ALL VOLUNTEER market in North Carolina. Our focus continues to be supporting small farms, educating our community on the advantages of eating fresh and local, and teaching our community to grow their own food. We are proud to have incubated the Mount Holly Community Garden in 2015 to further this vision.
