Diverse mix of international and local ready to eat foods, fresh produce and meats and fish, breads and Shoofly pies, flowers and cheese, wine and chocolate, Oola bowls and Amish quilted everything.
Herbs and spices, Soul food and Morning Glory muffins. The United flavors and colors of Lancaster inside with music and buskers outside.
It’s an experience, a destination, an uplifting place to buy the necessities of life – and meet your neighbors and people passing through.

Lancaster Central Market is the heart of Lancaster! It’s a wonderful, thriving example of diversity, progressiveness, and tradition blended together. Lancaster Central Market offers more than food – it offers cultural education and social connection. Meet old friends and make new friends at Market.

My husband and I moved to Lancaster from Brooklyn, NY almost 8 years ago. Central Market is a big part of our positive experience here. I shop early on Tuesdays and Fridays, mostly avoiding the crowds and the heat. We take full advantage of all the market has to offer and we just cannot imagine life without it! We donate to and support the market and its stand holders for ourselves and for future generations – we look forward to another 300 years of Lancaster Central Market !!

I grew up in the Lancaster area. Whenever I return home for a visit, I always go to Central Market! It’s not only nostalgic for me, but it has also grown and evolved. Central Market featured so many different foods from different cultures, while still having the fresh Lancaster farm grown products I love!

What a wonderful place , what a beautiful location, established 1730, still going strong, that says a lot for an establishment, it is the oldest established market in the country!

A great place to start your day with coffee and friends. It’s more than a market, it’s a social experience.

The emblematic heart of Lancaster, where city and country come together, located at the convergence of two of our main streets. Lancaster Central Market for me is my local grocery store, favorite day off
lunch spot, coffee shop, hangout place, and entertainment venue. Meeting the local vendors, shopping with them, and learning more about how they bring their products to market is such a much more rich experience culturally than any gourmet grocery store could ever be. Though surrounded by several such fine stores, they don’t interest me or capture my support like Central Market does.
The scale of the building and what Market products are “on offer” is just big enough. A not-to-be missed Lancaster County bucket list destination for both city and country-minded folk.
Esther Goropoulos says
Best farm market ever. Visit it weekly.
Dona Hullihen says
Staple of Lancaster City. The abundance of items at the stands are the result of fertile farm soil making Lancaster County a bounty of natural food wealth. Enjoy the history of the building and the variety of items offered for sale at the stands.

I’ve gone to this market for 62 years now. Where else am I able to find wholesome mostly organic foods under one roof. Local produce is grown by local farmers, Amish and Mennonites. The entire town and surroundings are so proud of our unique market house and the mix of vendors. I especially like Kauffman’s apples and ciders. My first encounter of the market was with my Mother when we would take the bus downtown, many times, for special treats. It holds a special place on my heart and most everyone who visits.
